The Secret Oasis Spa in Fulham, West London, explores all you need to know about acne skin facials.
Acne isn’t just something you get in those awkward teenage years. The skin condition can strike at any age (and any gender), though it is the most common in the 12-25 age range. In all cases, acne can be very uncomfortable both physically and emotionally to deal with. It’s not just your self-esteem and confidence which can take a blow, in some cases anxiety and even depression can form in those suffering from this hard-to-hide skin condition.
The good news is that acne is an extremely common condition. While this may not seem like great news if you are suffering from a particularly bad break-out, it does mean that there is a whole industry grown up around treating the symptoms. In this blog we look at the different types of facials that can be effective in the fight against acne, spots and superficial scarring.
What is acne and why do we get it?
Acne causes spots, oily skin and in some cases, hot or painful to touch skin. Most people will develop acne on their face, though some also suffer from the condition on their backs and chest. Acne causes a number of different types of spots and even cysts. The four main factors said to contribute to acne are:
- Sebaceous glands and sebum (affected by hormones)
- Cell proliferation
- Type of follicle
There is currently no magic cure, but the symptoms can be managed.
How can having a facial help?
First and foremost facials are brilliant for unblocking pores, removing dead skin, getting rid of blackheads/whiteheads and giving the skin some much needed TLC. If this is all new to you, you may not be in your comfort zone initially – to go from hiding your acne to having someone touching your face is a big step -however, the after effects of a good facial will make it all worth it.
Everyone’s skin is a little different, that’s why we have a range of facials that can help. Always talk to your therapist about your skin prior to having your facial, especially if you know certain products may aggravate your spots. Never feel awkward about discussing any concerns you have, after all, you know your own skin better than anyone else.
What facial is best for me?
At Secret Oasis Spa we have a number of facials that can help acne prone skin. What one you choose depends on the symptoms you want to address and your own personal taste. Don’t forget we are always on hand to talk to you about any of the below treatments, just get in touch.

Relax and unwind with this de-stressing and purifying treatment, which helps to remove damaging toxins, regenerate skin cells and balance sebum (one of the main causes of acne). The exceptional results are seen in your remineralised, rebalanced and renewed skin.
Oxygen skin calm facial
Designed specifically to soothe sensitive skin and even skin tone, this unique facial combines gentle massage techniques with a restructuring Japanese Silk Mask soaked in Absolute Skin Calm Serum. Aiming to rebalance delicate, fragile and sensitive complexions, this facial relieves redness and evens skin tone, offering immediate comfort to irritated skin.
SOS purifying facial
This is our signature facial. Sit back, relax and let us take your skin and complexion onto another level of purity. Developed to purify congested skin and clear complexions, the SOS purifying facial helps regulate and balance the function of the skin. Purifying massage techniques are combined with a unique Japanese Sulphur Mask and Absolute Vita-C Serum. Not only does this help to absorb sebum (one of the main causes of acne), but it also calms irritation and rebalances oil–rich pores, leaving a beautiful, matte complexion.
And for when your acne is under control and in decline, there are facials to help reduce signs of any damage that has been done. For instance a Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing facial can (not only) peel away the years for smoother, renewed skin, it also targets blemishes and superficial facial scarring too. This pioneering treatment is clinically proven to resurface by up to 75% and increase skin smoothness by up to 32% after just 1 treatment.
