Autumn beauty

The short nights have drawn in and there’s a real nip in the air. You may have noticed your skin feeling dry as the elements and central heating systems kick in. The good news is the Secret Oasis Spa is here to help you beat the colder season like a pro, with the following top tips.

The demands on your skin are changing and your skincare routine should do to.

Make sure you are exfoliating dead skin cells away effectively (at least twice a week) and using a quality moisturiser. You may need to swap your summer day and night creams for something a bit richer, but remember you will still need a day cream with a decent SPF as there is still the risk of sun damage.

If you are doing beauty on a budget coconut oil will give dry skin and instant boost. Let it soak in overnight for the best effects.

SOS tip: We always recommend Elemis and Environ products. Both rely on clinically proven technology, and use the highest quality natural ingredients. You can buy Environ and Elemis products in salon too, so take a look at our skincare ranges the next time you pop in.

It doesn’t matter how much your skin is glowing if chapped lips ruin the look. Invest in a good quality, natural lip balm to soothe cracked and sore lips.

SOS tip: To nourish lips while you sleep, exfoliate away dry skin and generously apply your favourite lip balm, olive oil or almond oil before going to bed. You’ll wake up to soothed and moisturised lips.

If your skin is feeling particularly dry, dull and lacklustre, you may need to invest in a professional facial to help bring back a radiant complexion. Not only will a skilled therapist be able to advise on the right type of facial for you, but they will know the best course of action for any problems the change in season presents.

SOS tip: At this time of year we see skin present with a range of issues such as extreme dryness and dehydration. Two of the most popular facials to boost hydration levels are Environ’s Essential MOISTURE BOOST Treatment or the Elemis Superfood Pro Radiance facial. To combat extremely dry skin, we’d recommend the Hydrafacial – a revolutionary treatment that is suitable for all skin types. Microdermabrasion can be used to remove old skin cells to expose younger, fresher skin. For a real skin refresh, use microdermabrasion in combination with your favourite facial or our micro-currentultrasoundthermotherapycryotherapy or LED light therapy treatments.

Unfortunately cold air equals dry hands and brittle nails. Invest in a heavy duty hand and nail cream, as hands are often exposed to the cold and so are particularly susceptible to drying out.

You may have also noticed that your nails have stopped growing as fast as they did over the summer. To avoid any damage when removing old Shellac polish always ensure you go for a professional shellac soak-off treatment – it’s the perfect way to remove old polish and will keep your nails as healthy as possible.

SOS tip: If you normally only go for a basic manicure, the beginning of autumn is a great time to upgrade your manicure to one that also includes a hand treatment. For instance our Luxury Spa Manicure includes hand exfoliation and a luxurious hand and arm massage to ensure your hands look as good as your nails. Even if you only do it as an occasional treat, it can still help to give your skin the boost it deserves.

So you can tackle whatever you encounter during the day, help your body to rejuvenate while you sleep.  Pro tips include using silk pillowcases (to avoid hair breakage and damage), wearing hydrating gloves (to deal with chapped skin and damaged cuticles) and popping your eye cream in the fridge (so you can cool and soothe puffy eyes).

SOS tip: It’s easy for skin to become dehydrated so make sure you drink enough water both throughout the day and before you go to bed. Staying hydrated is one of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to good skin.
