New Year Beauty Resolutions:

What treatments will you try in 2019?

Hands up if every New Year you pledge to exercise, eat healthily and make more time for the important things in life? Keeping those resolutions can be tricky – even though you know it will do you good – so why not switch things up a little this year and make a beauty resolution instead? Whether you resolve to try out something new, or to simply take better care of your skin, now is a great time to embrace change and kick start your 2019 beauty journey.

I resolve to have sensational skin

Want to take control of your skin? From tried and tested facials, to SOS’s newest treatments, you have plenty to choose from…

Fabulous facials

Facials have a lot to offer – not only do they help treat common issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, dehydration, blocked pores and acne – but they are a relaxing way to spend a quality bit of ‘me’ time. It’s win win as they aid general wellbeing as well as giving your complexion a boost.

Another bonus is that a professional facial takes all the guesswork out of skincare. Your beautician will talk to you about any skin issues you have and be able to advise on the best treatments and products for you. For every skin type and problem, there really is a facial to suit.

Treating yourself to regular facials will also make a massive difference to your skincare regime. Don’t forget your skin needs change throughout the year with the different seasons, and regular trips to the salon will help you keep on top of any small issues, before they become major problems. So whether you make it a monthly payday treat, or simply vow to try something different and new, facials should be high on your beauty list for 2019.

Microdermabrasion

Want to try exfoliation at its best? Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion is designed to gently exfoliate the surface of the skin, removing dead skin cells, imperfections, blemishes, wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation on the skin. It can be used as a stand-alone treatment, or as part of a longer facial, and will leave your skin looking younger, fresher, rejuvenated and restored.

Micro-Current

For those looking for a more electrifying facial experience, then Micro-Current is the treatment for you. Known as a ‘Non-Surgical Face-lift,’ Micro-Current is designed to re-educate the muscles of the face to effectively tone, tighten and firm the facial muscle fibres. This in turn, results in clients looking more youthful and the skin looking healthier.

It works by using a very tiny amount of electrical current, which pushes through the dermal layers of the skin into the muscle fibres. This current then, effectively, re-educates the muscle fibres causing the muscles to contract and elongate, achieving an incredible end result leaving the skin lifted and toned.

Ultrasound

And not every skincare treatment is just for your face. Designed to combat the signs of ageing and dark circles, Ultrasound can be performed on the body (stomach/legs/chest) or the face too. At SOS we combine ultrasound with the Thermotherapy tool before treatment to warm the skin and increase blood supply. The treatment is finished with a brisk 5-10 minute massage to the area, achieving a more effective result.

I resolve to have amazing eyebrows

Are you looking for amazing, low maintenance eyebrows, that look perfect night and day? Then Microblading is your answer.

Top of many people’s beauty wish lists for 2018, it’s likely that the Microblading trend will be here to stay through 2019 too. Microblading is a form of semi-permanent make up, where through a manual process of inserting pigment into the upper layer of skin, a trained therapist creates the desired fullness and shape of the eyebrows.

The effect lasts up to 12-18 months, after which the pigment fades leaving the skin and your natural brows exactly as they were. So just one treatment will last you all year long – how many beauty treatments can promise that?

I resolve to try a new type of massage

In our hearts there will always be a place for the good old favorites of Swedish massage, aromatherapy massage and deep tissue massage, but have you ever thought about broadening your horizons?

There is a whole world of massage techniques out there, all with a specific ethos and purpose. 2019 could prove the perfect time to give something different a try. So whether you need a technique to reduce stress and encourage a restful nights sleep, or need a treatment to address muscle pain or tightness, here are some of the lesser known massage techniques available at SOS:

Thai Combination Massage

Thai Combination Massage is a massage integrating more than one style or massage modality. It can combine techniques from Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, foot massage and trigger point therapy. These combinations are used to tailor the massage towards your personal preferences and specific needs.

Thai Combination Massage therapy benefits:

  • Reduces muscle tension & spasms
  • Mobilises the joints
  • Improves blood circulation and flexibility
  • Promotes relaxation
  • Reduces stress
  • Enhances energy levels.

Abhyanga massage

Abhyanga is massaging of the body towards the direction of the movement of arterial blood. In practical terms it means massaging the body in the direction of the body hair. The scientific reason for this protocol is to increase the blood flow towards the most distal parts of the body and avoid overwhelming the heart through increased venous return if the massage is done towards the heart, or in other words, in the direction opposite to that of the body hair.

Benefits of Abhyanga Massage:

  • Increased circulation, especially to nerve endings
  • Toning of the muscles and the whole physiology
  • Calming for the nerves
  • Lubrication of the joints
  • Increased mental alertness
  • Improved elimination of impurities from the body
  • Softer, smoother skin
  • Increased levels of stamina through the day
  • Better, deeper sleep at night.

Bamboo massage

Similar to hot stone massage, this technique offers a deep, firm massage given via bamboo canes rather than the therapist’s hands.

Benefits of Bamboo Massage:

  • Improved circulation
  • Calming for the nerves
  • Relaxes your muscles
  • Excellent for inflamed or painful joints.

Reflexology

Did you know that Reflexology is a wonderful stress reliever? Among other things, the treatment promotes a deep feeling of calm and relaxation, while melting away tension, lifting your mood and rebalancing the body.

Some people may confuse reflexology with foot massage, but it is so much more than someone rubbing your toes! There are reflex points mainly in the feet (but also in the hands, face and even ears), which correspond to all the different parts of the body. Stimulating these reflex points can treat various problems.

Reflexology has had some success in:

  • Aiding improved nerve function
  • Boosting energy
  • Increasing circulation
  • Detoxing the body
  • Reducing headaches
  • Managing symptoms of cancer treatments
  • Improved sleep patterns.
