We hate to bring up the ‘c’ word (coronavirus) but we know there are still some of you very wary to set foot inside the hallowed halls of the beauty parlor. We’ve fully embraced the new Covid-19 safety protocols at SOS, and while it did all feel very strange at first – for everyone, staff and client’s included – the spa is running like clockwork, so you can relax knowing you are in safe hands.
Our latest blog gives a shout out to all those desperate for their beauty fix, but worried about the implications of coronavirus. We’ve counted down our top treatments for a stress-free visit, while also giving you the lowdown on some of our new measures.
Salons and spas have long abided by stringent hygiene routines, even pre-coronavirus. The health and wellbeing of clients has always been at the forefront of our ethos, and while any change to the routine of work brings challenges, it’s one the beauty industry as a whole was well set up to adapt to.
If we look at how coronavirus is spread, you can easily see why the safety measures we have put in place work. From what we know, the virus is spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth. These droplets are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales. If someone else were to breathe in these infected droplets, they can catch coronavirus. If the droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person, then other people can also catch COVID-19 by touching the same objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.
Since we know how it’s spread, we can work hard to prevent the risk of infection. The key is to limit face-to-face interaction using PPE and social distancing (where possible), safeguard our clients and staff by rigorous cleaning and disinfection of surfaces, reduce contact points with hands on surfaces and of course, ensure hands are regularly cleaned and sanitized. That’s why we have introduced:
- Social distancing measures throughout the spa by reducing the number of appointments available to limit capacity.
- New waiting areas to allow for social distancing.
- Hand sanitisation stations at the door.
- Temperature check for all clients and staff upon arrival, plus we’ll double check to make sure you are feeling 100% well too!
- Compulsory use of face masks.
- Staff will be using relevant PPE for the treatment they are performing e.g. masks, gloves, face shields and apron.
- Safety screens at our treatment area and reception.
- Thorough sterilisation of our tools and workstations after every treatment.
- Regular deep disinfection of the spa.
- No tea/coffee or magazines available to help reduce the risk of transmission
- Disposable cups will be available for water. Water will also not be ‘self-serve’ like normal but our reception staff will be happy to get water when requested.

Now you know we have everything in place to keep you safe, here’s a quick run down of our top treatments.
Lower body treatments
If you are only comfortable having treatments away from your face and hands, these are the treatments for you:
Top of our list has to be reflexology. Reflexology is a deeply calm and relaxing treatment. It is a complementary therapy, which works on the principal that points on one part of the body will correspond to a body part somewhere else. These areas are arranged in such a way form a map of the body in the feet. Stimulating these areas can treat various problems throughout the body as a whole.
Reflexology is a wonderful stress reliever. Among other things, the treatment promotes a deep feeling of calm and relaxation, while melting away tension, lifting your mood and rebalancing the body.
At SOS we offer sessions from 30 minutes all the way through to 90 minutes. It can be a game changer for addressing other parts of the body (that you may not feel comfortable being touched in the current pandemic).

You can’t get much further from your face than your toes, so if you want to give yourself a treat, but feel uncomfortable with other treatments, then a pedicure is the way to go. Whether you go for our express pedicure, a longer lasting Shellac treatment or our luxury spa pedicure, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the back massage feature in our luxury chairs too – pure bliss!
And don’t forget we have safety screens in place and will be wearing PPE too.

Moving up from your feet to your legs, we have our favourite hair removal method – waxing. While we are offering our full waxing services including the face, not everyone feels comfortable having their upper body hair waxed right now. Good job we offer 1/2 leg, 3/4 leg, full leg and bikini waxing with both Lycon and non-Lycon wax. You’ll be back to silky smooth legs in no time.

Upper body treatments:
If you are comfortable having someone work on your upper body, but want to avoid facials, then these are some great treatments for you.
Nails are once again on the list with a manicure. As one of the first treatments to come back after lockdown, we are well versed in how to make your treatment as safe as possible. With safety screens in place, our nail technicians gloved up and face masks compulsory, you can still enjoy a chat while having your nails done (just like the good old times). Relax while we give you a pamper and leave the spa feeling fine with some glitzy new nails to show off.

Has the months of working from home of a makeshift desk played havoc with your back? We offer a wide range of massages that do not involve treatment of your face and include minimal face-to-face contact as the therapist will be working from behind you. From deep tissue massage which is excellent to address chronic aches and pains and tension in the neck, back and shoulders, to the delights of aroma hot stone massage, we’ll have a treatment to help ease those knots away.
We’ll happily accommodate your needs, so if you favourite massage normally includes areas you are not comfortable having a therapist work on, talk to us first so we can tailor your treatment to your needs.
