No one wants to think about autumn quite yet, but with the summer nights drawing in, it won’t be long until there’s a noticeable nip in the air and summer comes to an end.  When it comes to skin health, autumn brings its own unique set of demands. Temperamental weather and the effects of central heating systems can be a tough combination for your hair and skin. Change your skincare routine

The demands on your skin are changing and your skincare routine should do to.

Make sure you are exfoliating dead skin cells away effectively (at least twice a week) and using a quality moisturiser. You may need to swap your summer day and night creams for something a bit richer, but remember you will still need a day cream with a decent SPF as the risk of sun damage can still be high – especially if that longed for ‘Indian summer’ does appear.

If you are doing beauty on a budget coconut oil will give dry skin and instant boost. Let it soak in overnight for the best effects.

Don’t ignore chapped lips

It doesn’t matter how much your skin is glowing if chapped lips ruin the look. Invest in a good quality, natural lip balm to soothe cracked and sore lips.

SOS tip: To nourish lips while you sleep, exfoliate away dry skin and generously apply your favourite lip balm, olive oil or almond oil before going to bed. You’ll wake up to soothed and moisturised lips.

Give yourself a boost with a facial

If your skin is feeling particularly dry, dull and lacklustre, you may need to invest in a professional facial to help bring back a radiant complexion. Not only will a skilled therapist be able to advise on the right type of facial for you, but they will know the best course of action for any problems the change in season presents.

SOS tip: At this time of year we see skin present with a range of issues such as extreme dryness and dehydration. You may have also noticed that your nails have stopped growing as fast as they did over the summer. To avoid any damage when removing old Shellac polish always ensure you go for a professional shellac soak-off treatment – it’s the perfect way to remove old polish and will keep your nails as healthy as possible.

So you can tackle whatever you encounter during the day, help your body to rejuvenate while you sleep.  Pro tips include using silk pillowcases (to avoid hair breakage and damage), wearing hydrating gloves (to deal with chapped skin and damaged cuticles) and popping your eye cream in the fridge (so you can cool and soothe puffy eyes).

SOS tip: It’s easy for skin to become dehydrated so make sure you drink enough water both throughout the day and before you go to bed. Staying hydrated is one of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to good skin.
