There’s no doubt about it, party season is upon us! While it’s incredibly good fun, there’s no denying that all the late nights can take their toll. While there is much you can do at home to help banish bags and tired skin, there may be times you want to go that step further in the TLC stakes. So here’s the Secret Oasis Spa guide to keep yourself looking effortlessly glam in the run up to Christmas.
Don’t let your beauty regime slip during the party season – your skin is having to work hard, so now is not the time to abandon your usual rituals – if anything it is the time to take it up to the max.
The combination of cold weather, late nights, a lack of sleep, make-up, over-indulgence and alcohol can have a very negative impact on skin. Skin will often suffer the effects of dehydration and fatigue. With make-up blocking pores – especially if we forget to take it off from the night before – we can soon be plagued with problems including spots, oily skin, fine lines caused by dehydration, bags under our eyes or dry patches.
Steps to take at home:
The good news is that there are steps we can take every day to combat this:
- Make sure you remove ALL your make-up before hitting the sack and give your skin time to breathe.
- Cleanse, tone and moisturise.
- And (while we are on the subject) invest in a quality daytime mosituriser, eye cream and repairing night cream – we recommend Elemis and Environ products.
- Drink lots of water and try to avoid caffeine – if your body is dehydrated, your skin will be too.
If you need extra help:
If you need a deep clean or a radiance boost, facials are the way to go. We would recommend the Elemis Sensitive Skin Soother (Oxygen Skin Calm) facial that leaves skin soothed, comfortable and calm. Or the Elemis Superfood Pro-Radiance (Modern Skin) facial that leaves skin plumper, radiant and lit-up with good health.
Environ’s HydraBoost treatment will reduced the fine lines caused by dehydration, plump skin and leave it moisturised and glowing. While the Environ Purifying Facial will refresh and rehydrate skin, making it feel like new. Check out our list of facials here.
Lashes and brows not only frame your face, but make an instant impact. So even if your skin is feeling stressed, if your lashes and brows are in peak perfection you can still wing the glam look. If you are a dab hand at home, investing in good tweezers is a must. If eyebrow shaping isn’t your thing, head to your local salon.
For the ultimate cheat, head to the salon too for eyelash extensions or perming for that just curled look. An eyebrow or eyelash tint will also help define and embolden your look. Check out our eye treatments here.
And it’s not just the skin on your face that may need some TLC. The skin is the biggest organ in your body and normally the first place to suffer when you are ill or overindulge. Add to this aches and pains from hitting the dance floor or walks home in heels, and you may soon feel like you’ve done 10 rounds in the boxing ring, rather than a few nights out on the town.
Steps to take at home:
Don’t forget to exfoliate and treat your skin to a good body mosturiser. Pay special attention to elbows, knees and your feet – especially if you are spending time in killer heels. A relaxing bath, complete with facemask and your favourite candles can work wonders to turn the mind off before bed.
Again don’t forget that common sense advice to eat and drink healthily in between the excess, avoid too much caffeine and get a good night sleep.
If you need extra help:
If your skin is feeling particularly dry, head to the salon for a professional salt skin scrub to slough away dead cells and deeply nourish the skin. If your skin is feeling congested, never underestimate the power of a 20-minute steam room session to clear pores, aid detoxification, cleanse and regenerate skin.
Massage can also offer a great way to re-energize, relax and recover from aches and pains. Aromatherapy massage can help aid sleep, detox, release muscle aches and pains and boost energy levels. While the more intense hot stone massage will improve circulation, relieve painful muscles and joints and leave you in a deep state of relaxation.
If you have really taken things to the max and want to help aid your body’s own detoxification system, manual lymphatic draining massage is the way to go. This massage aims to help eliminate toxins from the body and boost the efficiency of your immune system.
And if you are heading to the salon for a wax this party season, try to book your appointment a couple of days before a big night out, rather than after it. Alcohol and caffeine can increase pain and so are best avoided. You can find out more in our waxing top tips here.
Don’t forget your hands and feet! Whether you take time at home to give your nails the perfect polish, or pop into a salon for a classic French manicure or long lasting Shellac treatment, the perfect manicure or pedicure will add an instant touch of glamour and finish off any look.
With some salons also offering a hand/foot massage or moisturising treatment options, (perfect to combat chapped hands in the cold weather), a manicure or pedicure becomes so much more than just having your nails buffed and polished. Check out our range of nail treatments here.
So, we hope our tips for surviving the party season help see you though.
