Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is recommended to be a whole-body massage treatment that works the soft tissues and muscles to help restore health – creating a calming and balancing effect on the nervous system.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage therapy is a full body treatment which works your soft tissues and muscles in order to revitalise you and to encourage healing in the body. It also creates a calming effect on the nervous system, resulting in a wholly relaxing experience for you. The benefits of a Swedish massage go beyond relaxation. It can help increase the level of oxygen in the blood, improve circulation and flexibility and many more.

What happens during a Swedish Massage?

During a Swedish massage, therapists use:

  • Kneading
  • long strokes
  • deep circular movements
  • passive joint movements

These techniques are meant to: relax you, stimulate nerve endings and increase blood flow and lymph drainage A traditional Swedish massage normally involves the whole body. You will begin on your stomach and flip over at the halfway point.

If you have an area of particular concern, such as a tight neck, you can ask your therapist to spend more time in this area. Depending on your preferences, you can ask your massage therapist to use light, medium, or firm pressure.

After a Swedish Massage

After you have received your massage, you may need to take some time to rest and recuperate. Taking a warm (not hot) bath with Epsom salt, or a shower if you don’t have a bath available, is widely encouraged. Eating a light meal or healthy snack will also help you to refuel, before taking a nap or simply resting with a good book or your favourite television programme. You should also rehydrate your body with plenty of water.
